We derive a new rule from the product rule:

                        Examples:

Tips:  a)  if ln(x) is involved, set u=ln(x) to get rid of it.

                                    b)  if xn is involved, try setting u=xn to reduce the power.

                                    c)  if ex is involved, it doesn't matter if it is u or dv since it's easy to integrate.

                                    d)  try splitting functions up into items for which we know the derivatives

and integrals (like the sec3(x) above).

                                    e)  if trig functions are involved, you may have to go in a circle to evaluate.

                                    f)  other than that, it's trial and error!

                                    g)  DON'T FORGET THAT U-SUB IS PREFERABLE AS A FIRST STEP

BEFORE YOU TRY INTEGRATION BY PARTS!!!!
